From July 2016 to July 2021 I drove a taxi part-time in London. I met many people
and had a lot of conversations during this period and as I carry a camera most of
the time I decided to document my journeys in and around London. In the back of
the car I carried a small blackboard and a packet of white chalk and upon entering
the cab I would ask people to write down how or what they felt at that point in time.
These ‘feelings’ portraits interspersed with observations show a diverse range of
people, like the man who had just left hospital to go to work after the birth of his
son, or the lonely Russian model living in a foreign city far from home, or the
utterly broken young woman who had just split from her partner, all paint an
interesting veneer of modern life.
